The exhibition "Uladzimir Stelmashonak. The Sons of the Belarusian Land"
The grand opening of the exhibition “Uladzimir Stelmashonak. The Sons of the Belarusian Land” will host at the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus (exhibition building, 24 Karl Marx St., 3rd floor, 1st room) on September 29, 2023 at 5.00 p.m. The exhibition is dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the birthday of Uladzimir Stelmashonak (1928–2013), the People’s Artist of the BSSR, a teacher.

Uladzimir Stelmashonak’s creative heritage includes easel painting, monumental art, graphics and scenography. The anniversary exhibition will demonstrate the artist’s skills in the field of easel painting. All works are presented from the collection of the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus.

The image of his native Belarus runs like a red thread through all the works of Uladzimir Stelmashonak. The artist repeatedly turns to the brightest pages in its history. The master creates a gallery of memorable portraits of outstanding people – historical figures, his contemporaries.

In the 1950s, the young artist’s paintings were still made in the traditional realistic manner. In the 1960s, Uladzimir Stelmashonak began to experiment, developing his bright, unique artistic style within the “severe style”. In the search for an artistic language and new means of expression to create his works, he combines painting with wood carving, collage, applique. The artist actively uses traditional Belarusian folk ornaments, often weaving text into it. The images embodied by the artist acquire a monumental and decorative character.

Despite the stylistic unity, each work has its own individual solution and the personal master’s handwriting.
